So many references, so little painting...

I have grand ideas and tons of material but getting started has always been my issue. Then, once I get started, I treat every effort like it is "precious"; can't make a mistake, can't take a chance it won't go south. So, I dawdle, postpone, set it aside for another day (which oftentimes never comes).
There was a time when I found something that I thought was spot on especially for a family member, and I would "copy" something, or do an original from a photo. I would take my time and have it ready for a birthday, or Christmas, whenever. These efforts ended with a great deal of pride and sense of accomplishment. Of course I was working full time and it made sense that I only had time for a few things a year.
Now I am retired. I have the time. What's the problem?
I subscribe to art magazines, attend some formal training from time to time, participate with other artists via social media. I am so in awe of what I see out there and humbled by their talents that I think I am just fooling myself that I could produce something worth while.
This is definitely an issue I need to rise above. I am dedicating myself this week to head downstairs to my studio and either work on or start a new painting, every day. I hope to be able blog that I am indeed working on my art and provide some progress photos going forward.
Here's to your own successes as we all pursue the things we were meant to pursue...take care all!
